Yummy & Disgusting

I ran 8miles in 1 hour 24 minutes. I had a 3 or 4 minute break in the middle. So its no speed records but I'm to close to push it. The picture was my treat after the run. Taco Bell Crunch Wrap Supreme 1/2 of
it was yummy and the other 1/2 was disgusting. I guess I'm just not use to eating fatty food like this. It just didn't sit well with me after I was 1/2 way done eating it. Yes of course I finished it I don't waste food.

St. Patricks Day Parade Run

I just signed up for St. Patricks Day Parade Run Saturday March 11th  9:30am Downtown St. Louis.  The run looks like fun who else is interested?  It was only $18 dollars for registration.   The parade is sponsored by AT&T and is at Noon.  http://www.irishparade.org/run/registration.html

The debate continues on the Drury side of me being Irish or English.  If I had it my way it would be Irish just because they have more personality and their cooler.

18 miles! "DON'T STOP"

Man it was cold out today it was 7 degrees out when I started running at 7:00am.

I think the run today was truly one of the craziest things I've done this year. Team in Training took it indoors this morning to the Visitor Center in Forest Park. Normally they have a table out in the parking lot for signing in and out with water and gatorade. They asked us to do the loop and come back and sign out and decide on doing the whole 16 or 18 miles we were scheduled to do today. I ran the loop which is about 6 miles and got back to the visitor center in 55 minutes.

I arrived at the Visitor Center and everyone was signing out. Sounded like everyone was stopping. The Sr. Campaign Manager and Full Marathon Running coach tried to talk me out of running the full 16 miles (10 additional miles at that point). They were both really concerned with me continuing to run, because it was so cold, could get frostbite, sick, have an injury that I possibly wouldn't feel, many concerns I heard from them and others. I felt good I felt I could continue. While running after a mile or two you get warmed up from the core out the cold doesn't bother me much. The first six miles were not much different from the previous cold run we had at FP. Looking back on the situation I was stubborn and probably ignorant of me to continue the run but against their advice I did. I was determined, once I get something committed in my head like I had for that run its hard for me to just turn it off. I have tried to keep that same level of commitment for my training and intend to have the same commitment the day of the Marathon.

I felt I had to do it. I've been thinking about this long run for two weeks (since the 14miler) I accidently went the wrong way didn't realize it till it was to late I ran 18 miles instead of 16. I didn't listen to Mikes (One of the mentors) directions very well to get the 16 miles. Including the 15 minute break at the visitor center. I finished the total 18miles in 3 hours and 20 minutes. I'm perty happy with that considering the temperature.

For the first time I felt a real concern about a car hitting me. I was on Wydown running back to Skinker not to far from Handley and I could see 3 cars coming towards me. I was looking at the drivers and could notice one wasn't paying attention looked like she was looking in the review mirror or a vanity mirror. Her car swearved a little in my direction but she noticed it and quickly corrected it. I pointed at her like "we are lucky and please pay attention!" I've been guilty of driving and being preocupied myself many of times not usually in neighborhoods though. I think I could of jumped up on the curb and out of the way in time. I'm glad I didn't have to find out.

"DON'T STOP". It was weird, I was about a 1/2 mile or more away from the end of the run almost back to my truck. At this point I had figured out I ran more than 16 miles I was coming up on 18. I thought to myself well I need to walk and loosen up but when I stop I will be warm for a bit but I will get cold quickly since I'm soaking wet. You also need to give your heart a chance to slow down. It is not good to be running then just suddenly sit down and rest. So I'm looking at the watch then looking ahead trying to gauge if this is where I'm stopping or at least take myself off the clock just as I had my finger on the stop I heard "DON'T STOP" play over my headphones. The only part I heard and it was clear as day. I thought well if thats not a sign I don't know what is so I kept running. "Don't stop the buck when it comes" The song on at the time was the Gorrilaz El Manana off their Demon Days album. So I ran another 5 or 6 minutes the rest of the way to the Visitor Center with about 50 - 75 yards from Visitor Center I slowed my pace then stop the watch and began to hobble my way to the VC.

All I can say is "DON'T STOP!" I don't know how more appropriate that phrase could be today.

More to follow I'm still recooperating, I'm surprised I typed out that much. Its perty rough I haven't even read it completley.

Reward! Now thats a hamburger!

Treat after a long run. I generally treat myself to some disgustingly fatty fast food treat after a long run. Today was Hardees Monster burger combo.

14 miles! In 2 hours and 16 minutes

I made it!
